Floods: 33 teachers, students, paralyzed women rescued by firefighters

 


PETALING JAYA: Seramai 33 guru dan murid serta wanita warga emas terperangkap akibat banjir di sekitar Serdang ekoran hujan lebat di sekitar Lembah Klang petang tadi.


Susulan itu, beberapa penduduk, guru serta murid terperangkap dalam kejadian di perumahan di Taman Serdang Raya dan di Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sri Serdang.


Pengarah Jabatan Bomba dan Penyelamat Malaysia (JBPM) Selangor, Norazam Khamis berkata, kejadian pertama melibatkan seorang wanita berusia 58 tahun yang lumpuh serta tinggal bersendirian.


Katanya, pihaknya menerima panggilan pada pukul 6.17 petang apabila mangsa terperangkap selepas rumahnya dinaiki air kira-kira 1 kaki.


“A total of nine officers and members from the Serdang Fire and Rescue Station were rushed to the location to transfer the victims to a nearby hall.


"The second incident involved 32 people consisting of 18 teachers and 14 students who were trapped at SK Sri Serdang," he said in a statement here today.


Norazam added that his party received a call at about 7.45 pm regarding the incident.


He explained that when he arrived at the scene, they found that the water had risen to waist level while all the victims were sitting on the second floor of the school.


“We used two lorries to bring down all the victims. All were rescued and handed over to their respective parents.


"The flood situation has receded to the knee level. The operation ended completely at 10 pm, "he said.
